TERRITORY pride is on the line on Saturday night when Top End boxers swap punches with their Brisbane opponents.

Taminmin Boxing Club is hosting the “Stoush at the Hub,’’ a fight night with a difference that features 11 bouts in weight divisions ranging from 56kg to 110kg.

Several rising stars of Territory boxing will be in action, including the highly rated Dylan Tilmouth from the King Brown Boxing Club, Tate Stewart from Cyclone Boxing and Taminmin Boxing’s Rhees Berts.

A ladies bout betweenPalmerston Boxing’s Rhiana Long and Megan McCulloch from the King Brown stable of fighters will be a highlight of the night.

Stoush at the Hub co-ordinator Boyd Scully said the fight night was the result of discussions between himself and good mate Syl Johns, a Brisbane based trainer Scully has known since his own formative years as an amateur boxer in Queensland.

“Syl and I wanted to bring several novice fighters from Brisbane to test their skills against our boys and this is the final result,’’ Scully said.

“There are exceptions of course, Tilmouth is a seasoned fighter and Stewart has fought at the nationals, so we expect some egood performances from them.’’

Scully said the onus was on every fighter to find his feet in the ring and progress through the ranks with some good performances.

“We’ve got the NT titles in Darwin in August, so this tournament is the ideal lead-up in terms of experience and quality of opponents,’’ he said.

The number of bouts on the program could increase if enough suitable opponents can be found during the official weigh-in at the Hub from 8am on Saturday.
